Lip Blushing in St. Louis, Mo

What is Lip Blushing?

Lip blushing is a cosmetic tattooing procedure designed to enhance the natural color and shape of the lips. Also known as lip tattooing or lip micropigmentation, this semi-permanent makeup technique involves depositing pigments into the upper layers of the skin to create a subtle and long-lasting tint on the lips. The goal of lip blushing is to achieve a soft and natural appearance, providing a more defined outline and adding a touch of color to the lips.

What to Expect During your First Lip Blushing Session

  • During the procedure:  A specialized tattoo machine or handheld tool is used to implant pigments into the lips, creating a customized hue that complements the individual's skin tone and preferences. The pigments used are typically semi-permanent and fade over time, allowing for adjustments or color changes in the future.

  • Lip blushing is sought after for various reasons: including the desire for fuller-looking lips, improved lip symmetry, and the convenience of waking up with a subtle yet polished lip color. This cosmetic enhancement can be a suitable option for those who want to enhance their natural beauty without the daily maintenance of traditional lipstick or lip liners.

The procedure takes about 3 hours. The consultation and shaping of the lips take about half that time. Tattooing is about 90 minutes. It can be helpful to bring earbuds as you will not be able to talk.

How Long Does Lip-Blushing Take?

Pre-care for this procedure is ESSENTIAL. If you come into your appointment with dry/chapped lips, we cannot work on you which will result in a late cancel fee. Please follow pre-care instructions carefully.

Is Lip-Blushing the same as Lip Neutralization?

Yes! After your healing is complete you can resume as normal, however many people end up loving their new enhanced color and only feel the need to use some gloss or chapstick.

Can anyone get Lip-Blushing?

Lip blushing is not for everyone. Below is a list of contraindications. Please read the carefully and if any apply to you, this procedure is not recommended.

If you are a smoker

If you have a history of MRSA

If you have psoriasis in the treatment area.

If you have an auto-immune disease.

If you have thyroid/graves disease (medication may cause pigment to not retain properly).

If you have anemia (pigment may not retain properly).

If you have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.

If you are currently undergoing chemotherapy.

If you are pregnant or nursing. (You cannot have this service. No exceptions.)

If you have Diabetes type 1 or 2 (due to slow healing and infection, color may or may not retain well).

If you are under a doctor’s care and have questions about being able to have this procedure, it is your responsibility to meet with your doctor and get written approval.

And if you are prone to cold sores, please see instructions below.

What if I get Cold Sores after Lip-Blushing?

You MUST get an antiviral prescription from your doctor to start taking 48 hours before through 3 days after the procedure. The process of lip blushing in itself cannot cause cold sores, but the trauma can result in an outbreak of the virus that is already present in your system. An outbreak can lead to patchiness in the healed results.

YOU CANNOT HAVE THIS PROCEDURE DONE DURING AN ACTIVE OUTBREAK. You should wait at least 4 weeks from last outbreak.

Lip Blushing After-Care Instructions

  • Lips may have swelling and boldness in color after procedure. Ice packs applied for 10-15 minutes each hour for the first 48 hours is recommended.

Cleansing in the First Two Days

  • Antiseptic wipes are provided to blot the area the first evening and morning after treatment.

  • On the second day, blot or gently wipe the treated area two times, morning and evening, again ONLY with antiseptic wipes provided. No water or other cleansers of any kind can be used for any reason in the first 48 hours.

    IMPORTANT

  • Let the skin naturally go through the healing and recovery process by applying only the moisturizer provided and not touching, picking, peeling, scratching or tampering with the peeling in any way. Doing so will affect the color retention.

  • GLOSSED aftercare can be applied GENTLY as needed (do NOT use mineral oil, chapstick I brand, or any petroleum products such as Vaseline). A thin layer goes a long way. This will keep the area moist and provide proper healing. Do not let the area dry out and crack, keep it moist at all times.
